I have been a resident of Valois for over 30 years, raising a family and being involved in the community since the mid-1990s. We joined the pool and scouts, went kayaking, got involved with soccer, went skating... if there was an activity Pointe-Claire had to offer, the Christensen family was there.
Near the end of my 42 years as a paramedic with Urgences-santé, I felt I could give back even more. I founded Stepping Up/Un Pas Vers l'Avant near the end of my career, when I saw a need that I felt I could fill. In the past 10 years, and with the help of so many dedicated people, I have collected over 75,000 pairs of socks for the homeless, prepared meals, collected non-perishable items for food drives, and held a fundraiser benefiting Ricochet and West Island Mission.
The latest addition to our family.
We even match!
I am currently a member of the boards of directors for both St. Michael's Mission, a refuge serving Montreal's most vulnerable in the downtown core, and Placement Potentiel, a Pointe-Claire-based non-profit that specializes in providing employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities who would otherwise have difficulty integrating into the regular job market. I also serve on the executive committee of Pointe-Claire Branch 057 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and have been a proud member of this institution since 2019.
In planning what more I could do in my pending retirement, I founded the Pointe-Claire Citizens' Association (PCCA) in 2022 to foster and promote citizenship among residents of Pointe-Claire and further the recreational, cultural, and social interests of our population. In 2024, the PCCA resurrected The Pointe-Claire Record, a local, online, free, volunteer-run newspaper providing information and entertainment to all West Island residents.
